PROFILE OF SPORTS BOARD

 

 Brief History of University Sports Board.

HNB Garhwal University was established in 1973 and the importance of sports and games was given on top priority to developed infrastructure of sports like stadium, indoor halls and play fields. Late Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. S.P. Nautiyal took initiative towards developments of sports stadium at Chauras Campus. Chauras Stadium was built in 10 thousand square meters and facilities like Track & Field, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Volleyball, Handball etc. facilities were developed with the hard work of Shri R.P. Tamta, Secretary Sports & his staff Shri Digambar Singh Rawat, Shri K.K. Chandola and Shri Ramesh Rawat.

After becoming Central University a new post was sanctioned as Director, Physical Education and special grant was sanctioned for the development of sports facilities under 12th plan.

Dr. C.P. Singh was appointed as Director, Physical Education of the University and was given the responsibility to organised sports and games and for future development of sports and games like construction of Basketball, Tennis, Cricket, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Swimming Pool to construct under 12th plan.

In 2012-13 A new indoor Gymnasium was constructed and opened for university students & staff, and facilities like Table Tennis, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing, Sports Training Lab, Gymnasium and Rock Climbing facilities were provided.

University Sports Board is dedicated to make university as centre of excellence for sports.

   Aims and Objectives

The Aims and Objectives of the University Sports Board shall be:

(i)         To educate University Students about the importance of Games, Sports and Physical Education.

(ii)       To create Sports consciousness and general awareness of the need of games and sports.

(iii)     To plan and promote all round development of games, sports, physical culture and physical education.

(iv)     To organize training, coaching and education in Sports, Games and Physical Education.

(v)       To encourage Sportsmanship generally and to promote friendly relation among affiliated and constituent Colleges/ Campuses.

(vi)     To raise the standard of sports and games prevailing in the Colleges and other member institutions and to work for the development of character values through sports amongst the college students.

(vii)   To encourage such other activities as may be conductive to the aims and objectives of the University Sports Board as enumerated above.

 

   Vision

The University strives towards excellence in teaching-learning with relevant curriculum and innovative research, promoting good governance and inclusiveness by providing leadership for a knowledge society.

   Mission

A.        To design and teach curriculum that is contemporary, competitive and content-rich to make students creative, knowledgeable and entrepreneurial.

B.        To encourage faculty to engage in relevant and globally competitive inter multi-disciplinary research, consultancy and extension work.

C.        To provide infrastructure resources to facilitate access, equity and harmony both for students and faculty.

D.        To create the best possible academic ambience for achieving advancement of students and faculty to be leader in their endeavours.

E.         To make administration efficient, transparent and adaptable to e-governance.

   The Dialogue of the Sportsmen

a)          Always "Play Fair."

b)         Compete with best of your abilities and don not give up the contest even if the outcome is likely to be unfavourable.

c)          Keep cool during the contest and do not be drawn into tempered actions.

d)         Always uphold the regulations of the game in all circumstances and live in accordance with the rules of a good citizen's life.

e)          Acknowledge the merit of your opponent and congratulate the victor, you should not try to find excuses for you defeat and should not retain any bitterness in you soul.

f)          Victorious, you should remain modest and also respect the efforts of the defeated.

g)         You should behave with decorum in front of the judges, the organizing authorities and the public.

h)         Never forget, "Greater the performances you achieve, greater will be your responsibility for the maintenance of principles of the Olympic spirit."

                  i)           You should take part in sports and games only out of love for them and you should always aim at your personal improvement in achievements.
