About Us

                 The library is a knowledge and information center which has rich resources in Social Sciences, Humanities, Management and Sciences. The library was established at HNB Garhwal University Campus in 1973 with an objective to fulfill the needs of the students pursuing various degree and teachers involved in teaching different courses offered by the university. The collection of various periodicals also caters to the need of students and teachers to keep abreast their knowledge pertaining to the current activities and development within their subject, state, country and across the world. At present there is no sufficient staff as per strength of the student’s staff university. The library hours are 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM on all working days.

             The library is situated at a distance of about 03 KM from chamba (nearest station on national highway to Gangotri), 10 KM far from New Tehri and about 63 KM from Rishikesh. The place is well connected with road from Rishikesh and frequent bus and taxi services are available to reach Badshahithaul from where the library is at a walking place.

1.                 Acquisition Section: - Documents procured are systematically arranged in the library for easy access. All collected document are classified subject wise for easy literature search after the accession. The Campus Library system has a stock of more than 1.30 lakh book out of which 6846 books have been added to the collection during 2016-17

2.                 Text Book Section: - After Accessioning the books in the acquisition section the text book are relocated in this section for the user’s direct access. From this section, books are issued to the users for the purpose of reading in the library reading room.

3.                 Circulation Section: - The registration of new member is done at the circular counter. The register and ledger system of issue and return of books is followed. All the research scholar, faculty member and students can be registered themselves by the approval of the Librarian.

·                    Conducting inventories and searching of missing books

·                    Assisting readers in the use of library catalogues

·                    Maintaining the books-stacks etc.



4.                 Reference Section: - library also has the reference wing as a separate section. There are a lot of encyclopedias, very useful rare books, dictionaries, bound volume of journals and periodicals etc. Reference service is another way by which library collection is brought to the notice of the users. The reference department also helps users in selecting the useful to them. The reference department attracts a potential user by its state of the art collection of literature.

5        Reading Room: - : Library has separate reading room section. For user’s there 11 newspapers of local and national level (Hindi & English). 15 magazines (which covers areas of competitive exams, sports, entertainment etc.) and 44 latest journals (in hard copy) etc. available in this section.

                    The library has a total collection of 1,32,341 which includes books serials non book material etc. which have been placed at the  I, II & III floor. The collection is housed subject-wise on all floors under six major streams i.e. Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Law and Management Section.


Rules and Regulations


Admission to the library restricted to members only, who may be required to show identity card at entrance. The members must sign the register with the entry of the membership particulars.


Readers should observe strict silence inside the library.


Use of mobile phones are not permitted inside the library building.


Members are responsible for books issued and books lost.


Readers are not allowed to bring their personal material inside the library. The belonging like bags, umbrellas, etc should be deposited with the rack kept near the entrance of the library.

No of students who visit the library for reading Reference Books, Journals, Magazines and Newspaper - Average 250 students daily.

Library InfoNet Lab :- To meet the needs of E-Journals and E-Books of Library. The Campus Library has Started InfoNet Lab with 45 Thousands E-Journals and E-Books which received  a good response from the Student, Teacher and Research Scholar. The main aim of the InfoNet is to provide electronic access of the Literature.

Departmental Library:- 13Departmental Library has been establish in the    Campus.


1.                       Reference service is provided for each collection at the respective section.

2.                       Membership and issue – return services are at the III floor.

3.                       Text books on all disciplines are kept at the Text book section.

4.                       Documents delivery Services and inter library loan facility are available.

5.                       Card catalogues of different collection are available on III floor.

6.                       Xerox facility is available in the library.

7.                       Newspaper clipping are available for the campus.

8.                       For science schedule cast students a special book bank is available. This book  

            bank has been funded by state government under the special component grant.
