CENTRE FOR JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION
Department of Journalism was established in 1976 at Birla Campus, Srinagar. Later on, the nomenclature of the department was changed to 'Centre for Journalism and Mass Communication'. The admission to this course is made through Entrance Test which is conducted normally in the month of June/July each year. Now, the intake for M.A. (Mass Communication) is 40 seats.
The Centre for Journalism and Mass Communication has well equipped laboratories for Print Media and Electronic Media (Audio-Visual) including studio. To provide practical training to the students the Centre has also been publishing a monthly laboratory journal - ‘SANCHAR TATVA’. Provisions for the students have been made for extensive field and institutional visits/Apprenticeship Training in the courses being offered by the Centre. In addition to the permanent faculty the Centre also engaged guest faculty/visiting faculty to add on the strength of the faculty to facilitate teaching in the Department.
The courses being offered by the Centre provide immense job opportunities to students in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication and alumni of the Centre have been serving several prestigious organizations of print and electronic media. The faculty member has published 01 research paper during 2011-12.
