 Coordination of R&D projects on biodiversity conservation and management,
restoration ecology, climate change & biodiversity monitoring, medicinal plant
cultivation and conservation, environmental & conservation education, tran-boundary
cooperation etc., in the Himalayan region.
 Floristic diversity explorations/vegetation sampling/assessment along elevation
gradient in the various parts of the Himalayan region.
 Long-term ecological monitoring in forest ecosystems, and long-term observations in
alpine ecosystems (Global Observation Research Initiative in Alpine Environments).
 Spatio-temporal changes, and impacts of a native expansive and invasive species on
plant species richness and composition in alpine and forest ecosystems.
 Ecological and economic assessment of agroecosystem, forest ecosystem, livestock
production system, and their interdependencies as an ecosystem.

 Restoration of waste/degraded/forests land through community participation;
developed restoration/ rehabilitation models.
 Agroforestry and sacred sites – their role biodiversity conservation and climate change
adaptation.
 Medicinal plant cultivation & conservation, and documentation of herbal knowledge of
medicinal plants.
 Climate change impacts and adaptations, and forest vulnerability assessment.
