Plant Biotechnology: -

Scientific validation of plants of ethanomedicinal importance.

Exploration of plant tissue culture techniques for mass propagation and conservation of promising high value medicinal plants.

Harnessing untapped benefits of medicinal plants through biotechnological approaches and exploration of plant-pathogen interactions with special reference to Himalayan flora.

Deciphering the signaling pathways during abiotic and biotic stresses like plant-pathogen interactions, using genomics approaches

Microbial Biotechnology and Metagenomics:-

Biotechnological exploration of microorganisms for enzyme production, xenobiotic degradation, bioremediation of heavy metals and plant growth promotion.

Functional metagenomics and bacterial diversity assessment of soil, water, fermented food etc. by culture dependent and independent approaches.

Exploration of lichen diversity and production of natural dyes

Structural Biology:

Deciphering the structure and function of proteins of pathogenic bacteria and other parasites using macromolecular crystallography leading to structure based inhibitor design.

Comparative Genomics and Bio-informatics:

Comparing genomes of parasitic organisms to understand the novel pathways unique to pathogens and exploiting bio-informatics based tools to study their structure, function, annotation etc.

Research Projects: -

Bioinformatics Facility (BIF Centre) established by DBT, GoI, New Delhi, for the promotion of Biological Teaching through Bioinformatics (BTBI) Scheme of BTlSnet” (Cost approx Rs. 70 Lakh.) continues since 2007.

Effect of altitudinal variation on antioxidants, forskolin content and Genetic diversity of Coleus forskohlii from Uttarakhand and exploration of its anti-ageing potential, Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology. (2017-2020, completed)
