The department of Hindi came into existence with the inception of Garhwal University in the year 1973. The objective of establishing this department in all three campuses of the University was development of Hindi Language as well as to study or enriching other Indian language. Presently, Pali, Prakrit and Upbhransh languages are also studied here. The Courses being taught in the department include modern subjects like Folk literature, Hindi, new poetry, Folk languages Kumaoni and Garhwali besides teaching the Hindi literature as set in conformity with the UGC syllabus. The department is also running minor research projects sponsored by UGC. 09 research scholars have qualified NET exam during 2011-12.
During the year 2011-12 the faculty members have published 09 research papers and 01 book and have also participated in 05 Seminars/Workshops/Conferences.
