Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, Who saw the light Of the dav in Devbhumi Garhwal, by virtue of his life of an eternal Karma yogi and a veteran politician, lifted the giory of Garhwal and India upto the supernal heights. He received his early education from Garhwal region and later on shaped his academic and political career from Allahabad University Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna was a man of commitrnent He firmly believed in multi-religious, mufti-lingual and multi-ethnic fabric of Indian society. Risen in politics from the lowest strata this Patriotic politician eternally detached from all petty selfish motives and refused ta compromise with fundamentalism and regionalism.
The history of his political life is full of twist and turns but despite the blows of time and fate. he steered the wheel of his iife like the ever flowing Gangee Hemwati the son of the mountains proved true to his name He never lost his cool even in the odds emerging off and on in his lire He was one o fthose few politicians in India who advocated corruption free neat and clean administration. He held important ministerial positions for long terms in the union and state Government.
It was his firm that the autonomy of the democratic institutions should be respected and maintained by the executive machinery He always emphasized upon the autonomy of the university During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He took special care to maintain the dignity of the status of the Vice-Chancellors. The tremendous love and concern which he manifested towards the teaching is remembered teachers to this day with gratitude. All of us always remember him for ms efficient administration and strong commitment, he showed for the all round development of Garhwal university Adopting the name of Shri Bahuguna for the University and thereby over wheiming portraying its distinctive identity, we salute the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, the true son of the soil.
