About the Department
The Department of Physics is one of the main part of the School of science in the university. At present, Physics is being taught at UG and PG level in all the three campuses (Srinagar, Pauri & Badshahithaul-Tehri). At PG level, under semester course, students have the choice of specialization in Electronics, Solid State Physics, Particle/Astrophysics, Laser & Optoelectronics, Nuclear Physics. The Department has strong base for research and is running Pre-Ph.D course. It is actively engaged in research. Some of the areas for Ph.D are Mathematical Physics, Fluorescence spectroscopy, Astrophysics, Material Science, Solid State Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Atmospheric Physics and Space Science.
The Department has been taken under the DST-FIST programme by DST. As such, the Department has strengthened some of its research and computing programs, at Chauras/Srinagar campus.
Various research schemes under DST, UGC, MNES etc. have been successfully completed by the faculty members. At Tehri Campus a Laboratory and field station for radon measurements has been established. The Department is also working in an international collaborative project in the field of nuclear physics. The faculty members have published papers in the National and International research journals and presented papers in national and International Conferences.
