About the Department.
The Department of Education holds the distinction of being one of the oldest departments at HNB Garhwal (A Central) University, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Since its inception in the academic year 1973-74, it has offered a B.Ed. programme, further expanding its academic horizon in 2006 with the introduction of the M.A. in Education. Prof. Sunita Godiyal currently chairs the department and serves as its head. Early in 2024, new faculty members joined the department team, bringing with them specialities in diverse educational fields such as science education, mathematics education, inclusive education, computer education, ICT in teaching and learning, the teaching of Hindi, and the teaching of Sanskrit. The faculty consistently contribute research articles to esteemed national and international journals, demonstrating their commitment to academic excellence.
Various psychological tests and tools equip the department to support the advanced study of education. Complementing this, the department boasts a library that houses an extensive collection of books in both Hindi and English, catering to the needs of B.Ed. and M.A. education students as well as pre-Ph.D. and Ph.D. scholars. Furthermore, the department is currently pursuing the five full-time research scholars under the guidance of Prof. Sunita Godiyal. In accord with modern educational trends, the department features a smart classroom, which serves as a hub for ICT-enabled teaching and learning. This integration of technology in education not only prepares future educators to deal with the contemporary, digitalised world but also enhances the overall quality of instruction. The Department of Education has forged meaningful associations with both government and private schools within Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. This corporation enriches the student-teacher experience through a practical internship program. During this phase, the student teachers gain invaluable firsthand experience by conducting remedial classes for low-achieving students and actively contributing to the enhancement of the teaching and learning process by distributing educational materials to the schools.
Moreover, the department's faculty and students actively participate in social outreach. They organise awareness programmes and rallies addressing a variety of social issues, such as the promotion of millets, environmental conservation and various social issues.
